Find calmness in the courtyards and pavilions at L'Acqua Viva, surrounded by a tropical dry forest private reserve, free from the flurry you'll find just 15 minutes away in Playa Guiones or Playa Pelada.

Echo the resort's serenity: dip in the pool or Jacuzzi to watch the mirrored images of the hotel's architecture and surrounding jungle, nap on the terrace, or enjoy passion fruit and orange juice smoothie at the contemporary bar with two plasma screen TVs.

Rooms

Between yoga and surf sessions in town, return to the resort to unwind in one of 35 rooms; standards, suites, master suites, junior villas and a presidential suite, dispersed throughout 10 buildings.

Sleek and capacious standard rooms, $175 in wet season (May-Nov.), exude plush king size beds trimmed with black frames, desk space, A/C, reading lamps, a coffee maker, safety deposit box and telephone. In the personal bathroom, a tiled countertop vanity resembles a minispa, accompanied by four super-soft towels, soap and a hairdryer.

Services & Amenities

Walkways bordered by yellow-speckled croto and other native Costa Rican plants, two open-air terraces, and expansive wooden poolside decks allow for couples, families, and large groups to revel in the resort's beauty.

L'Acqua Viva features an air-conditioned gym with cardio and weightlifting machines, and is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Additionally they offer 24-hour security guards, and a private parking lot.

Restaurant

Set under bamboo pillars, the sunlit restaurant matches the spirit of the hotel, arranged fancily with linens and glassware for all three meals of the day.

A classy breakfast offers all hotel guests fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee, a chilled fruit plate, choice of eggs (fried, scrambled or ranchero style with tomato salsa), toast, and gallo pinto (mixed rice and beans).

The contemporary bar mixes up midday drinks with imagination; Coco Loco, $7, piña colada flavored with grenadine and mango juice.

Lunch dishes are wholesome; blackened chicken salad, $10, lettuce, tomato, avocado, cucumber, tortilla strips, creamy dressing on the side; and grilled tenderloin, $19, served with kettle-cooked potato chips and a mixed salad

Dinner grasps global flavors; Bali grilled chicken breast, $15, with pineapple-curry sauce, and mix kebab, $22, skewered cuts of beef tenderloin, chicken and shrimp with onions and a side of sautéed vegetables.

Desserts at L'Acqua Viva are a must; crepe, $5, filled with a rich chocolate sauce, and Tres Leches, $4, sponge cake soaked in heavy cream, evaporated and condensed milks, inch-thick layer of whipped cream, and garnished with a cherry.
